King George VI (11 Dec.1936 – 6 Feb.1952)

Caroline Blomfield wrote for the Kew Society in May 2020:

Kew Green : There is just one post box (above) in Kew from the time of King George VI, mounted in the wall on the south side of the Green a little way beyond Cambridge Cottage. Made by W.T. Allen, as was the wall box in North Road, it is slightly different, with the ‘GVIR’ cipher more like the ‘EVIIR’ ones, with more of a flourish than the ‘GVR’ one, and with the crown just above it. The words ‘POST OFFICE’ are cast in the aperture flap and ‘NEXT COLLECTION’ just below it.”
